PROJECT SNAPSHOT

Moorebank Logistics Park is Australia’s largest freight infrastructure project, valued at $2 billion. Fulton Hogan was awarded the Stage 1 design and delivery contract for the Import Export (IMEX) Terminal. Work is well underway on the 243 hectare site, with some parts of the Park now nearing completion.

Throughout the IMEX construction and pavement operations, a substantial quantity of crash rated road barriers was required. Jaybro assisted Fulton Hogan by supplying over 1.3km of Deltabloc concrete barriers.

THE CHALLENGES

Construction firm Fulton Hogan has recently completed extensive pavement work inside the Moorebank Intermodal Terminal Development area. One of the near-finished stages of this project is the IMEX facility, where over 1300 metres of crash rated concrete barriers were required to protect workers on site and channel traffic safely.

JAYBRO’S SOLUTION

Jaybro’s DB80 concrete Deltabloc barriers are being used as a safety measure whilst work continues in other areas. A range of 2 metre, 4 metre and 6 metre Deltabloc crash barriers were supplied, along with 4 metre tapered ends, totalling 1320 metres.

Approved for road use up to 100km/hr in New South Wales and Victoria, and 80km/hr in Queensland, the Deltabloc DB80 concrete jersey barrier can reduce the risk of impacts caused by out of control vehicles. Deltabloc technology has been optimised in more than 130 full-scale crash tests, allowing Deltabloc DB80 barriers to deliver the best impact severity results available.

The Deltabloc DB80 is a MASH TL-3 approved concrete barrier. This means a 2270kg ute travelling at 100km/hr, impacting the barrier at an angle of 25 degrees achieves a dynamic deflection of 1.44 metres. With the patented coupling system, the DB80 allows a slight tilting of the impact energy in case of a heavy impact. Elastomer bearings between each unit ensures controlled damping of peak loads. This guarantees reliable breakthrough prevention for heavy vehicles and soft impact behaviour for small cars.

THE PROJECT IN DETAIL

Moorebank Logistics Park (MLP) is Australia’s largest freight infrastructure project. When complete, it will link Port Botany direct to rail terminals and warehousing on a 243 hectare site. The precinct will have the capacity for around 250,000 containers a year by 2019 and 1.05 million export-import containers per year by about 2030 to be moved by rail from Port Botany.

Moorebank Logistics Park links Australia’s freight networks and ports, improving logistics and taking many trucks off the roads. Over 850,000sqm of warehousing is planned and two intermodal transport terminals. An open access regime will give any rail or road transport operator the right to use freight transport services via the terminal at Moorebank.
