Spotlight on Safety at Jaybro Group during Safe Work Month

For over a decade, Australia’s peak regulatory body has run a campaign during October to raise awareness of health and safety in the workplace. Safe Work Australia encourages businesses to put heightened focus on WH&S by running internal events during National Safe Work Month, and Jaybro Group has several events on our employee calendar that deliver safety knowledge from different perspectives.

From hosting a guest speaker during a company-wide safety lunch session to hearing from a workplace accident survivor, we’re putting the spotlight on safety throughout October.

A Paralympic Champion Shares his Story

Guest speaker from icare, Kahi Puru, will be visiting our Arndell Park head office with the regional Jaybro employee tuning in via live stream. Kahi Puru is one of Australia’s best bench press powerlifters, having represented Australia in bench press powerlifting in the 100 kilos plus class at the 2000 Sydney Paralympics.

Kahi has an inspiring story to share – after a workplace forklift accident resulted in him having his leg amputated at the hip, he began an intense training program and went on to represent Australia at the Olympic level.

Mental Health First Aid Awareness

The first week of October is Mental Health Awareness week which also incorporates World Mental Health Day.

It’s well documented that an individual's mental health can have a significant impact on their work and their family life. This critical aspect of overall health and wellbeing has recently led the Jaybro team to nominate several employee members to be trained as Mental Health First Aiders.

This training teaches participants how to recognise the symptoms of mental health issues and support those affected by them. During October we’re running an awareness program to introduce our Mental Health First Aiders and share information on how to identify psychosocial hazards and practical steps to control some common hazards.

Psychological Safety For Teams

Our friends at MIGAS are running a lunch and learn session on how to create a culture of problem-solving, critical thinking and innovation, and Jaybro Group employees have been invited to attend. This session offers insights from presenter, Julie Robinson, who is a Mind Trainer for elite performers and athletes through to children and young adults.

Julie's presentation will focus on overcoming uncertainty and worry at work and how to build stronger teams that feel psychologically safe to be themselves.

Our goal every day is zero harm, keep all employees safe and sending them home the same way they came to work.
