Pecafil formwork for Sydney school redevelopment

Rockform Group needed a versatile permanent formwork for their work on a school redevelopment in Alexandria. Jaybro supplied Max Frank Pecafil to site quickly and efficiently, ensuring the team at Rockform could continue the job on schedule.

THE PROJECT

pecafilThe existing school in Sydney’s Alexandria is being demolished and redeveloped to cater for 2200 kindergarten to year 12 students. Rockform Group was contracted to complete concrete structural works including the formwork, reinforcement, concrete and scaffolding for this new development.

Construction is currently in progress, with installation and pouring of the footings underway. Soon Rockform Group will pour the ground floor slab and install the formwork for the upper levels.

THE CHALLENGES

The school is operating as normal during construction, and to minimise disruption to students, the build had to adhere to a strict time frame. The team at Rockform chose to use Max Frank Pecafil permanent formwork for this build. The main advantage of formwork such as Pecafil is that it is lightweight and enables fast installation on-site, plus it saves time as there is no stripping of the formwork required.

In contrast to plywood or steel formwork, Pecafil can be moulded into custom shapes prior to delivery. It arrives on site ready to use, and its light construction makes it easy to build up by hand. Additionally, the pre-formed elements can be cut and adapted on-site if necessary without any special tools.

Sarkis Barakat from Rockform Group had this to say about how easy it is to use:

"Pecafil is a great product to replace conventional formwork when used in footings piles and pits. It's easy and fast to install, lightweight, with no need to strip, and can be moulded to suit various shapes. And, it doesn’t need any skills to install - anyone can install it, all you need is pliers and some wire. We used Pecafil at this project to form up around pad footings, strip footings and pits."

ABOUT MAX FRANK PECAFIL

Max Frank Pecafil formwork is designed to save time on-site and take the hard work out of formwork construction. The specially manufactured material is constructed from a steel mesh in a wide range of sheet and strip sizes with various wire diameters, shaped to meet your needs. Its distinctive yellow outer layer is made from heat-shrunk polyethylene.

This unique formwork replaces conventional timber or steel shuttering for the in-ground construction of pile caps and ground beams, to provide fast and accurate formwork installation.

Pecafil is suitable for a range of applications, using standard or custom-manufactured elements, and it is fast and easy to install. Curved or complicated foundation forms can easily be produced on-site and it is light enough for just one person to handle.

Using Pecafil saves time and costs on blinding, labour and spoil removal, and there is no stripping, cleaning or return of the formwork.

The staged redevelopment of the school is expected to be completed in early 2022.
