Premium Site Mesh for Chandler Highway

Premium Site Mesh for Chandler Highway

Chandler Highway Upgrade
Seymour Whyte, June 2018

PROJECT SNAPSHOT

The Chandler Highway Upgrade will involve widening 2.3 kilometres of the highway to six lanes and construction of a new bridge over the Yarra River. For this project, Jaybro supplied 2.6 kilometres of printed site mesh to promote the project and at the same time, increase privacy on site.

THE CHALLENGES

The project ran alongside the highway and therefore screening the construction from the public was a key factor. In order to increase safety and prevent motorists from being distracted by the work on site, anti-gawk screens were fitted to the concrete crash barriers. These screens subsequently needed to be covered with a tough, effective site mesh.

JAYBRO’S SOLUTION

Jaybro supplied Seymour Whyte with 1,400 metres of our premium banner site mesh in October 2017. With the government re-brand, a further 1,200 metres of site mesh was printed and supplied in June 2018 which was installed on anti-gawk screens attached to concrete barriers along the highway.

Our printed site mesh is designed specifically to have a long shelf life, be rolled and unrolled and transported between sites. We offer a range of different heights to custom fit your needs. An excellent durable option, it effectively creates privacy on site at the same time as it advertises your brand or project.

Constructed from tough UV treated polyester banner mesh, site mesh has 80% block out with reinforced welded or folded edges & eyelets for easy installation on your temporary fence or gawk screen. Site mesh is constructed with a thinly woven Nylon core, coated with a liquid state PVC. The PVC dries to form the mesh finish. Whilst PVC is flammable, it is a more fire resistant plastic than most general-purpose plastics because it contains more than 50% chlorine.

To further assist with reducing the chances of flammability, fire retardant inhibitors are added to the PVC composition. The inner core of Nylon represents a small volume of the overall mesh and will only be exposed if the PVC outer is burnt. A fire retardant exists within the PVC however this has no specified fire rating.

THE PROJECT IN DETAIL

Work on the $110 million upgrade started in 2017. It involves widening Chandler Highway and building a second bridge next to the existing one. This will improve traffic flow and provide smoother journeys for Melbourne’s inner north.

As part of the upgrade, Seymour Whyte secured a $60 million dollar contract with VicRoads to upgrade the intersection at Heidelberg Road, and provide six new lanes for the highway. Additionally, workers would construct a new bridge to the west of the existing Chandler Highway bridge, and make improvements to cycle and pedestrian paths.

The project is due for completion in 2019.
