They can be used to pack floor joists and ceiling battens, pack brackets and lintels and for shimming struts and beams.
Who uses shims and packers?
With unlimited uses in the residential, commercial and industrial sectors, they are an essential item for:
- Precast and tilt-up concrete installers
- Concreters
- Builders
- Carpenters
- Bricklayers
- Kitchen installers
- Window installers
- Stonemasons
- Gyprockers
- Cladding & weatherboard installers
Shims or packers are made from solid polypropylene with high compression strength. Shims are strong yet flexible can be cut and then nailed, drilled, or screwed into place.
Plastic packers look basic but they are a rigorously tested product. They are tested and approved in line with ASTM 695 - this is the method for compressive properties of rigid plastics. Additionally, they meet the Australian Standard for tilt-up concrete construction, AS/NZS3850.
Weight tested to 20 tonnes, they are a seriously heavy duty product!
Jaybro’s range includes full and half packing shims as well as horseshoe packers. These are ideal for various applications such as levelling door and window frames, using when fixing precast concrete panels and stumping. The high compressive strength means that they will retain their shape and not crush or warp into a different size even after packing and fixing.
Additionally, unlike wood or other types of shim, polypropylene will stand the test of time.
