Win United 4" Brass Foot Valve

A foot valve is used to ensure the pump remains primed. The presence of a foot valve prevents fluid from reverse flowing into the suction hose.

Keeping the pump primed helps to restart the pump - without a valve the hose can fill with air.

After switching a pump off, fluid drains back down the suction hose to the source of supply. This means that when restarting the pump, all the air that has built up needs to be expelled.

By installing a foot valve, the reverse flow is eliminated. The pump is able to start and be stopped without the need for time-consuming priming.

Another advantage of installing a brass foot valve is that the weight of the valve helps the hose stay submerged. With the weight of the valve pulls the suction hose towards the bottom of the supply. A submerged hose prevents air from getting sucked into the pump.
