Crowd Control Fencing for Shopping Centre Redevelopment
Castle Hill Shopping Centre
The new $1 billion-plus Castle Hill lifestyle and shopping centre is under construction, bringing a redeveloped shopping mecca to Sydney’s Hills District. The area is in a key growth corridor, intersecting with the new Metro North West train line.
When complete, Castle Towers will be transformed into a retail podium with 3 residential towers, two hotels and an office building on top, as well as an entertainment and leisure precinct. The area is expected to reach close to 200,000 square metres on completion.
During the project, the existing shopping centre has remained open and trading (however at reduced patronage due to COVID-19 restrictions during the early months of 2020).
Because stores were actively trading, it was necessary for workers to cordon off areas where interior fit out was taking place. In particular areas, overhead services including lighting and HVAC systems were being renovated, and it was critical that the public was not put at risk by entering into these areas.
An ideal solution for this kind of application, the Fortress crowd control fencing is a lightweight, low profile and easily installed barrier system that can keep the public out of no-go areas.
In this instance, areas with exposed ceiling space have been cordoned off, as well as small storage zones for concrete and other building supplies.
The Fortress Fencing crowd control fencing is easy to set up with a simple pin and lock system that means one panel easily slots into the next. The feet are low profile ensuring trip hazards are minimised.
These barriers are also neat, visually appealing and unobtrusive whilst still being effective at keeping shoppers out of certain areas. As opposed to full height temporary fencing, the panels are 1.1 metres high which is adequate for purposes like this one at Castle Towers. A high visibility orange finish makes the fencing easy to see for safety.
Each 2.3m long barrier features a double interlocking hinge point that provides excellent stability. This hinge system makes installation quick and easy, and the removable feet can be taken off during stacking and storing. The feet also come with pre-drilled holes for bolt-down applications as seen here.
